Changing the Face of Gifted Education: Increasing Access & Equity in Gifted Education/Advanced Learner Programs

Dr. Joy Lawson Davis and Dr. Erinn Fears Floyd
Wednesday, April 21, 2021
Central Rivers AEA, Cedar Falls

This day-long session will provide participants an overview of current trends in research and evidence-based best practices that have potential to permanently change gifted education programs. Currently, gifted education programs nationwide are under scrutiny to become more equitable and accessible for students across populations. With equity and access as underpinnings, all session discussions, materials, and small group interactions will be designed to help educators create enhanced gifted education programs. Identification protocols, critical professional learning activities, rigorous culturally responsive curriculum, and parent/family engagement models. Each of these sub-components of programming will be ‘unpacked’ and solutions discussed. Deliverables include effective strategies that all participants can utilize in their respective school districts.
