Pre-conference workshop: MTSS Guide for Advanced Learners

Sunday, October 14, 1:00-5:30 PM, Airport Holiday Inn, Des Moines, Iowa

Presented by the Iowa DE’s MTSS Advanced Learner team

What? The Advanced Learner Multi-tiered System of Support Guide was created to assist classroom teachers, ensuring all students are appropriately challenged. The Advanced Learner MTSS Guide is written content neutral and can be used across disciplines for K-12 grade learners.

Who should attend? Districts are encouraged to bring teams to this opportunity comprised of general education elementary classroom teachers, secondary educators, a counselor, teacher leaders, a building administrator, the g/t coordinator, and g/t teachers. This professional development is offered at no cost to the participants.

Cost: $30 per person

Special events on Monday evening, October 15

Parent Night, 6:30-8:30 PM, Boredom and Creativity in the Gifted Child with Dr. Kristofor Wiley, followed by networking opportunity for parents. The event is free and open to the public. Register at https://parentnight_itag2018.eventbrite.com. Download the 2018 ITAG Parent Night Flyer  and share with parents.

Game Night– Meet in the Atrium (by the pool) for an evening of fun! 6:30PM-9:00PM. Games provided, but feel free to bring your own. Stay for one round for the entire evening. Just plan on joining us for some fun! See ITAG Game Night flyer.

Book Club! Discuss The Girl with the Silver Eyes, 2:10-3:10PM on Monday (during Breakout Session 4). Read the book ahead of time and bring your copy with you.

Conference shirts

Thanks to all who ordered I Teach Gifted/What’s Your Superpower or conference logo shirts. The online store has closed. Orders can be picked up at the registration area at the 2018 annual conference.  All profits from the sale of the shirts will support ITAG’s teacher mentoring program.

Hotel accommodations- Contact the Airport Holiday Inn directly for reservations and cancellations

The deadline for reserving rooms at the conference rate ($99 + taxes/night) at the Airport Holiday Inn was Sept. 30, 2018. Questions about hotel reservations should be directed to the hotel directly at 515-287-2400. Attendees are responsible for their own hotel accommodations
A global Holiday Inn policy states that the reservation cancellation policy will require all cancellations to be made “day prior to arrival” for all IHG brand hotels. Guests will have up until 4 pm or 6 pm (local time) one day prior to arrival to cancel their reservation without penalty.

Conference cancellation/refund policy

Full refunds of conference registration expenses will be given up to October 1, 2018. Beginning October 2, 2018, refunds for half of the registration amount will be considered.

Information for Vendors and exhibitors

The exhibit area is moving! This year, exhibit booths will line the main hallway of the conference center so that your booth will be located with the conference attendees. Also new this year: Exhibitors have the option to exhibit during Parent Night on Monday, October 15.
Exhibitor information
Booth set up: Sunday, October 14, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Booth hours:
  • Monday, October 15, 2017, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM (the start of registration through the close of sessions)
  • Tuesday, October 16, 2017, 7:00 AM–2:00 PM (the start of registration through the close of sessions)
  • OPTIONAL: exhibitors have the option to be present at their booths during Parent Night, Monday, October 15
  • All exhibit materials must be removed by 4:00 PM on Tuesday, October 17
Booth details:
Each booth is an 6-foot deep x 10-foot long space with one skirted 8-foot table, two chairs, one wastebasket and one standard sign. Exhibitors are welcome to bring additional display structures and can request that no table be in the booth. However, all exhibit materials are limited to the assigned booth space.
Electricity and Internet access are provided to each booth at no additional cost.  Booth registration includes two representatives per booth. Up to one additional representative can register separately by purchasing an Additional Representative Ticket for $80.00 in Eventbrite registration. Booth representatives are provided with breakfast, lunch, and dessert on Monday and Tuesday. Meals not provided for at the conference are on your own.
Exhibitors are responsible for setting up, attending the booth, and removing all materials. Insurance is the responsibility of the exhibitor.
